What A Great Weekend!

This weekend was just fantastic! Yesterday was a holiday for us up here in Canada so it was great to have the day off after Sunday.

Here are just some of the highlights of this past weekend:
  • The worship team did a wonderful job of tying in the theme of freedom from our spiritual prisons. The communion focus was bang on and a perfect fit. He ended up going over the scripture that I didn't use.
  • The work in my basement is going great! All the drywall is in place and the joints are starting to get done. I may be painting in a couple of weeks!
  • I had a fantastic time playing with the kids this weekend.
  • My wife and I went over to a friend's place and roasted sausages on a fire pit last night and didn't get home till midnight. It was great to chill out and talk and laugh!
  • My sermon went very well - at least I think so :) I skipped a half page in my notes by accident. Probably a good thing since it may have been a tad longer then I thought.
  • The theme of evangelism was really well received by the church family!
  • The Canada Day fireworks we saw on Sunday night were some of the best I've ever seen!
  • Hanging out with our neighbours and their kids is a wonderful way to spend the weekend!

Ahhh... I love weekends like those! Makes me excited and jazzed up for another week here at Woodside! Thanks God for all the wonderful things you are doing in our lives!

Over the past few weeks our church has been doing a preaching series called Practical Atheist. This is based on the book The Christian Atheist by Pastor Craig Groeschel. I've been blown away by how God has worked in the hearts of so many people over the past few weeks. Mind you, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Pastor Craig's ministry has had such a huge influence on my personal walk with Jesus so just is just a continuation of that blessing. This week we're probably going to hit the hardest topic for me to preach on, I Believe in God but I Pursue Happiness at All Costs. I'm going to be using Jesus' parable of the sower and look at how our pursuit of happiness causes us to miss out on truly how God wants from our lives. Wellness Journey Update

  In early April 2020, I decided to take better care of my health. Actually, the decision was made on January 1st, 2020. It just took me time and a month of lockdown in my basement to get me to do something about it. My focus was to care for myself physically, emotionally/mentally, and spiritually. In the first year of the journey, I saw some significant changes. I dropped nearly 60 pounds of weight, reduced back pain, and began sleeping through the night for the first time in my adult life! I also did some great work with my Christian therapist to strengthen my mental health. I began deepening my walk with Christ through strengthening devotions and intentional mentoring. As I experienced these blessings, my hope was to pass along these blessings to others. I became certified as a DDPY Fitness Level 1 Instructor and a FastTrack coach.  While there were blessings, there were also challenges. Back from Catalyst!

WOW!!!! That's all can say right now! Yesterday experience at Catalyst was just incredible! And I gotta admit... God really wrecked me! I've never felt closer to God than I did on my knees yesterday, crying in his presence! I'm still processing all that God had to say to me through this event. I'll be blogging about it next week as it all becomes clearer. I'm so grateful to everyone involved in putting on Catalyst One Day! Thanks to Andy Stanley and Craig Groeschel for just bringing it!! I was so encouraged and minister to. Picked up Craig's new book, The Christian Atheist. Started reading it this afternoon! Was awesome to meet him and others from the LifeChurch.tv team. Their ministry has been such a wonderful blessing to me in my personal walk with God. When people ask who pastors me, Craig Groeschel is on the top of that list.
