The God Debate

Those who know me well know one of my biggest passions is knowing and following the real Jesus. Not the one that we want and not the one that a lot of churches pass on as Jesus... but the real Jesus, God in the flesh, the guy who taught us that our religion is meaningless. It's about love and a right relationship with God and with all people around us.

I really enjoy the teachings of Bruxy Cavey from The Meeting House church. He is doing a fantastic series right now called The God Debate. He has such a great and honest and humbling response to the popular books out now put out by some leading atheists. If you're exploring who Jesus is, or don't think he was real, or you're a Christian trying to grow in your understanding and relationship with Jesus, I would HUGELY recommend you download this and give it a listen. I really like Bruxy's stuff. I've got a huge backlog of his podcasts waiting to be listened to.

I know you have lots of reading to do and generally ignore my recommendations for books :)

But I'm half way thru Misquoting Jesus by Bart Ehrman. Excellent read! Want to know the real jesus? Impossible since the books that report his "history" have been changed and enhanced to many times.

Best Chapter is the 5th. Well know fact that Mark is prob the 1st gospel written. Luke and Matthew used it as a base for their books, right? John being special...

Mark is the only book that portrays Jesus as a "Human" - with fear, anger (you know the stuff that makes us human).

Like and Matt removed a lot of the places that portrayed Jesus as more human. Those 2 guys are responsible for the "Happy Jesus" of church murals and Sunday school sermons :) [Kevin knows I have a special place in my heart for Happy Jesus]

I'm gonna listen to the podcast - but I doubt is will heal the major schism between xtians and the atheist (You know the whole jesus and god hooey).

I always make note of the books you recommend Dave. Once I finish school in 5 years I plan on reading them :)

Well I just learned that we're all out of luck... just finished looking at and article entitled "Outside the Catholic Church There is Absolutely No Salvation". Might as well pack it in :)

Over the past few weeks our church has been doing a preaching series called Practical Atheist. This is based on the book The Christian Atheist by Pastor Craig Groeschel. I've been blown away by how God has worked in the hearts of so many people over the past few weeks. Mind you, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Wellness Journey Update

  In early April 2020, I decided to take better care of my health. Actually, the decision was made on January 1st, 2020. It just took me time and a month of lockdown in my basement to get me to do something about it. My focus was to care for myself physically, emotionally/mentally, and spiritually. In the first year of the journey, I saw some significant changes. I dropped nearly 60 pounds of weight, reduced back pain, and began sleeping through the night for the first time in my adult life! I also did some great work with my Christian therapist to strengthen my mental health. I began deepening my walk with Christ through strengthening devotions and intentional mentoring. As I experienced these blessings, my hope was to pass along these blessings to others. I became certified as a DDPY Fitness Level 1 Instructor and a FastTrack coach.  While there were blessings, there were also challenges. Revitalized Pastors and Leaders

On March 15, 2023, the Barna Research Group released the "The Resilient Pastor Initiative". Its goal was to explore and share the state of pastors in America in the post-COVID climate we find ourselves in. According to the data, the state of pastors may not be as good as it appears from behind the pulpit. From 2015 to 2022 Barna notes the following where pastors responded "Excellent" in a number of categories: Spiritual well-being dropped from 37% to 14% Physical well-being fell from 24% to 9% Mental and emotional health plummeted from 39% to 11% The overall quality of life dipped from 42% to 18% The level of respect they felt from the community tanked from 22% to 10% Level of ‘true friends’ dropped by 50% from 34% to 17% The data also showed that this drop in wellness was more prevalent in younger pastors!
